If you’re like me, you not only wonder why all the tasty food seems to be bad for you, but you are also convinced that heaven is going to be a place where burgers, chicken wings, and fries can be enjoyed for eternity without adding air to that spare tire.

In fact, many people look at healthy eating and wonder what they are being punished for.  Many healthy food options are in fact quite bland and uninspiring, and truth be told, more of us start cheating at mealtime sooner rather than later.  However, eating healthy doesn’t have to be approached the way a convict approaches the electric chair.  There are a number of healthy choices out there if you take the time to look for them.  And since many of these foods are not burned to a crisp in the fryer or smothered in salt, you have the chance to taste their natural goodness.

The best approach to take is to be a little daring. Try something new such as a vegetable or fruit you don’t normally eat. You may be surprise by the wonderful world of new flavors that awaits. Once you find something that you like, then start looking around for recipes that include that food item. In no time you will add a number of tasty options into your meal rotation that are both nutritious and healthy.

Chips and salsa are enough to block an artery by just thinking about them. However, salsa does have its place. Salads, oddly enough, are great places to put a little salsa instead of that fattening dressing. It is a lighter choice that puts a little “oomph” in the salad without overpowering the natural flavors the way dressing often does.  And while eggs mixed with egg whites are a nutritional start to the day, it is also quite boring, but salsa can spice up this particular dish quite nicely.

Don’t think of healthy eating as depriving yourself. There is no need to give up everything that tastes good in the name of a slimmer figure. Just find better alternatives that are just as tasty as what you commonly enjoy. It may take some time, but the payoff is simple, being able to enjoy your meals while eating healthy all at the same time.
