Your Fitness Resolutions
It’s almost the end of March, which means it is a pretty fair bet that most of us have soundly broken our New Year’s resolutions. This is all fine and dandy of course, unless you have slacked off on achieving your fitness goals. That is one area where we should all make the attempt to be diligent and keep the promises we made to ourselves.
So how to keep the resolution to lose weight, get fit, and become a whole new you? Simple, just follow the four steps below and get back in the game.
Avoid cliché’s like the plague (rim shot). Don’t just refer to “losing weight”, but rather set some unique goals for yourself, such as going to this year’s Halloween party as a Chippendale dancer. Go beyond starting to run or jog by putting your eye on a fall marathon. Having a dream, a realistic goal, will go a long way towards helping you start out and stay on track with the goal of making it a reality. You may forget about the nuts and bolts of fitness, such as counting calories, but the notion of running that foot race or being the life of that party will keep you going!
Make a game out of it. Don’t hesitate to reward yourself when you do well or reach one of your goal markers, and by the same token, rake yourself over the coals when you don’t. Keep a record of how you’re doing so you will know what you need to improve. By making it fun, you are far more likely to stay with the program that much longer, which puts your fitness goals in perspective.
Take some drastic measures. So you want to reduce your fast food consumption, so take the first month and go cold turkey with fast food. Going cold turkey for 31 days and see how much better off you are. They say that 30 days without something can break almost any bad habit, and you will be making healthier choices regarding what you choose to eat. Even if you do start going through the Mickey D’s drive through again, you aren’t likely to do so as often or order the same horrific meals that you once knew. It is important to be smart, while at the same time being aggressive.
Your Commitment To Fitness
Stick to your guns. It is awfully hard not to fall back into those old habits which have been so deeply ingrained upon our psyche, but resist it with everything you have. Be creative with your resolutions and stick with them. Your goals are attainable, and you have what it takes to get there. All that is required is the commitment to it. We routinely commit to other things in our lives with no trouble, so why should matters of fitness be any different?
